Mekoryuk, AK Breakwater

Mekoryuk, AK is a village on the remote island of Nunivak in the Bering Sea with a breakwater that is due for repairs under the mandate of the USACE. In 2018 surveyors from eTrac flew to the island with a Riegl VZ400 to map the breakwater. In order to survey the state of the breakwater with as much data as possible, the scan had to happen on the lowest tide of the year. The breakwater was static scanned with a terrestrial 3D laser scanner by setting up many targets along the breakwater to get a full image without any shadows. The targets and scans are tied together to create a local project coordinate system and later tied into a global coordinate system once post processed. Final deliverables included high resolution gridded XYZ’s.
