Nikiski, AK Outfall Pipe

Located in the town of Nikiski, tucked away in the east forelands of Cook Inlet, AK, is a fish processing plant that changed ownership in 2018. eTrac conducted a hydrographic survey in the vicinity mapping the outfall pipe to the plant. The survey consisted of multibeam data collection at multiple frequencies, as well as backscatter data collection, drop camera video transects, and grab samples throughout the area. Preliminary assumptions suggested a blocked pipe due to fish waste. The complete survey package concluded that waste did not exist and the actual issue related to inflections in the pipe due to strong tides and sediment movement in the area.
