Barrow, AK Erosion
Located within the Arctic Circle is the northern most populated “town”, Utqiagvik AK. (also known as Barrow, AK.) The USACE is assessing coastal erosion of the northern shore of the area caused by high winds, heavy ice, and permafrost. eTrac was contracted to conduct a singlebeam survey of the eroding coast line. Our surveyors worked as a conglomerate team alongside other survey companies to complete this effort. eTrac utilized a local vessel of opportunity (18’ Lund) and completed 62 survey lines to map the seafloor over a 5 mile segment of shoreline to determine bathymetric characteristics of the eroding shoreline.
